World Fragrance Day 21/03/25
History of International Fragrance Day
A subtle, alluring way to evoke memories and emotions, fragrances have the power to transport anyone to moments long past.
This day was officially established in 2018 as a project of The Fragrance Foundation and has been celebrated annually ever since. Virtual and in person events are meant to drive awareness about fragrance as well as creating excitement within the fragrance community.
But the background of fragrance goes back much further than a few years! In fact, people have been enjoying certain fragrances for thousands of years. The world’s first recorded chemist was a person named Tapputi, a perfume maker who was mentioned on a stone tablet from the 2nd millennium BCE in Mesopotamia.
The oldest perfumery was discovered on the island of Cyprus and dates back to the Bronze Age. In the Book of Exodus, the Bible also describes a certain sacred perfume consisting of liquid myrrh, fragrant cinnamon, fragrant cane, and cassia. Today, France is widely considered the world center of perfume and cosmetic manufacture. Enjoy the scents around you, from the cherry blossoms on the spring trees to freshly baked breads at your local bakery. Scents bring comfort around you and memory’s to life!
