Bees and their nectar are symbols of health, fertility, wisdom, power. Bees are also associated with liminal spaces, thought to be close to the entrances to the Underworld, linking them with chthonic deities. Honey was a source of wisdom and poetry, and was believed to give the gods of Olympus incredible powers. The gods lived on honey (nectar) and honey wine (ambrosia), which represented immortality and victory over death, again tobacco was also seen as a link to the other planes when burnt
